Description
1970 – MATRA 530 M Chassis number: 5285 Engine: Ford V4 Vehicle registration document: French Date of first registration: 2 January 1970 Odometer reading: 95,500 km. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1967, the Matra 530 was the first true production sports car developed by Matra. Designed by Philippe Guédon, it stood out for its particularly original design for its time, combining a mid-rear engine, four seats, a polyester body and a targa-style roof. Its name, ‘530’, refers to the R530 air-to-air missile developed by Matra, a nod to the manufacturer’s aeronautical origins. The powertrain consists of a compact and robust 1,699 cm³ Ford V4 engine, mounted transversely in a rear-centre position. From 1969 onwards, the engine was fitted with a twin-barrel carburettor and produced around 75 ch. This development gave rise to the M 530 A, recognisable in particular by its mechanical improvements and distinctive styling. With its mid-engine layout, composite bodywork and removable roof, the M 530 remains one of the most distinctive creations of the French motoring industry in the 1960s and 1970s, and represents a significant milestone in Matra’s history. The Matra 530 A is relatively rare today and highly sought-after, given that only 3,731 units of this model were produced, and many have since been scrapped. A two-door coupé with a retractable roof, finished in forest green – the paintwork has been repainted to match the original colour – and featuring a black leather interior. Original steel wheels fitted with chrome hubcaps.
