Alexandre IACOVLEFF (1887–1938) Portrait of Anita Lopez (known as Sou Sou), Chios, 1936. Red chalk and pencil on paper, signed, inscribed, dated and dedicated in the lower left-hand corner: ‘To Sou Sou and viva Chios! Piripe, 20 August 1936’. Height: 37.3 cm Width: 27.6 cm Always recognisable by her bow ties, Anita, nicknamed Sou Sou, often posed for the artist. As a model young lady, an attentive reader, a Girl Guide leader… There was a strong bond between Alexandre Iacovleff and Anita Lopez, as shown by the dedication to ‘Sou Sou’ and the signature ‘Piripe’, a nickname reserved for friends. We would like to thank Mrs Caroline Haardt de La Baume, an expert on the work of Alexandre Iacovleff, for writing this entry.
