Folio volume comprising (15) bound leaves and 49 loose plates in a publisher’s full Marrakech filali cloth slipcase with flaps, author’s name and title stamped on the front cover, leather laces, crafted by Félix. First edition published under the direction of Lucien Vogel, containing notes and travel drawings by Alexandre IACOVLEFF, official painter of the Citroën Centre Afrique expedition, relating to the second Haardt mission, Audouin-Dubreuil, illustrated with numerous in-text sketches and 49 colour plates, numbered 1 to 50, including one double plate (numbered 1–2). The engraving and printing of the plates and drawings were carried out by Godde Chevassus, as were the trichromes, printed on the presses at Studium. The text was set using the ‘sphinx’ typeface by Deberny Peignot. Limited edition of 1,020 numbered copies; this copy, no. 108, was printed for Arturo Lopez Willshaw, with the text on Madagascar paper from the Lafuma-Navarre paper mills and the plates on pure rag vellum from the Lafuma-Navarre paper mills. The text is bound in a soft-cover binding of havana-coloured half-suede, with black satin covers featuring African-inspired decoration painted in red and black. Notes: The ‘Citroën Central Africa Expedition’ (28 October 1924 – 26 June 1925), also known as the ‘Croisière Noire’, was the first expedition of its time whose objectives, clearly defined by the French government, went beyond sporting and commercial achievements to take on a humanitarian, scientific and cultural dimension.
