Founded in 1867, Carlhian established itself as one of France’s leading interior design and furniture houses. Following significant international expansion, André Carlhian continued the business at 22 Place Vendôme. In 1953, his sons Robert and Michel founded R & M Carlhian, based at 73, quai d’Orsay.
In the 1940s and 1950s, Carlhian was one of the suppliers of furniture to the French government, notably for embassies, alongside Arbus, Adnet, Jallot, Old, Pascaud, Porteneuve and René Prou,
