Description
Leopold GEST (born 1938) Variation on the ‘LGM-W#025’ model Mirror with a patinated wrought-iron frame depicting a radiant sun. Circa 1970. Height: 27 cm Diameter: 16.5 cm Bibliography: “Les Fers de Léopold Gest” – Galerie Meubles et Lumières – Exhibition from 31 March to 30 April 2026. Note: Léopold Gest, born in Calais, moved to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in the late 1960s. There, he developed a body of work centred on metal, particularly iron and steel, which he assembled, transformed and patinated. His earliest creations were made from salvaged fragments of agricultural tools, resulting in lamps, mirrors, candlesticks and sculptures. In 1971, he and his wife Noëlla founded a contemporary art gallery in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Mirrors occupy a unique place in Léopold Gest’s body of work; they elegantly explore the interplay between metal structure and reflective surface, which has become one of the hallmarks of his work.
