Description
André Aleth MASSON (1919–2009) A free-form coffee set in unglazed terracotta comprising a jug and four cups, with openwork handles. Signed with a triskelion beneath the base, accompanied by the number ‘36’. Certificate of authenticity by Denise MASSON dated 25 February 2022 Note: Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes and Paris, André-Aleth Masson devoted himself to ceramics in the post-war period, developing a distinctive body of work centred on material, volume and colour. His meeting with André Borderie in 1953 marked the beginning of a close collaboration, notably within the Mur Vivant movement. From the 1960s onwards, Masson broadened his practice to include painting, sculpture and printmaking, working in an abstract style characterised by organic forms. A leading figure in the revival of the French decorative arts, he is distinguished by an experimental approach to materials, at the crossroads of ceramics, sculpture and architecture.
