Frame dimensions: Height: 148 cm Width: 149 cm Photograph dimensions: Height: 80 cm; 29.5 cm Width: 120 cm; 41.5 cm Note: Born in Belfort in 1989, Guillaume Legros, known as Saype, is a self-taught artist who began creating graffiti as a teenager. After training and working as a nurse, he simultaneously developed a personal artistic practice, inspired by street art, graffiti and reflections on human, philosophical and environmental issues. From 2013 onwards, Saype made a name for himself with his gigantic murals created directly in the natural environment – on grass, earth, sand or snow – using a biodegradable paint that he developed himself. At the crossroads of street art and land art, his work plays on monumental scale, the relationship with the landscape and the ephemeral nature of the artwork. His ‘Beyond Walls’ project, launched in Paris in 2019, is one of the key strands of his artistic practice: depicting figures and hands reaching out to one another across different territories, it explores the notions of solidarity, openness and the bonds between individuals. The title, ‘Beyond Walls’, evokes both geographical borders and the barriers between people. Each mural thus forms part of a global artwork that is gradually connecting different regions. As the first stage of the global art project ‘Beyond Walls’, this work, created on the lawns of the Champ-de-Mars, marks the beginning of a vast human chain envisioned across cities and countries. His artworks, designed to fade away gradually, thus combine human commitment, technical innovation and environmental awareness.
