Note:
Saype, whose real name is Guillaume Legros, creates monumental works in natural spaces, particularly on lawns, using a biodegradable paint that he has developed.
‘Beyond Walls’ is his flagship project, launched in 2019. He envisions a vast human chain painted across different cities and countries.
His figures hold hands, symbolising a humanity that transcends borders. The title, ‘Beyond Walls’, evokes both geographical borders and the barriers between individuals.
Each mural thus forms part of a global work that is gradually connecting different regions.
As the ninth stage of the project, Cape Town embodies the spirit of Ubuntu, based on solidarity and living together.
Created in two neighbourhoods with very different social realities, these monumental hands symbolise reconciliation and unity, transcending the inequalities and wounds left by apartheid.
