Crack in the left arm, minor chips and wear.
Acclaimed by the public and critics alike upon its creation in 1749, and regarded as Jean-Baptiste Pigalle’s masterpiece, ‘The Child with a Cage’ served as a model for sculptors of the second half of the 18th century, as well as for painters, who incorporated marble into their portraits and still lifes. The original model is now housed in the Louvre Museum under the reference (RF 654).
