An important wall lamp and its lamp base. Lyon school, by Fraichet in Lyon, late 18th – early 19th century. Set in a wooden frame painted in the ‘Martin’ style with a decoration of flowers, roses and a sleeping sheep on the lamp base, the whole enhanced with Rocaille-style bronze fittings Single-piece white enamel dial, the bezel adorned with bronze fittings in the same design, surmounted by a bronze figure of Renown Fraichet of Lyon, who set up shop at Port du Temple in 1788 (listed in the *Dictionnaire des Horlogers français*, but not in the *Dictionnaire des Horloges genevois*), produced a mechanical movement with a quarter-hour striking mechanism in the style of Neuchâtel-style timepieces of the period. The care taken in the construction of the striking mechanism, featuring a superimposed double counter wheel, is characteristic of late 18th-century production in the Lyon region, under Swiss influence. The small plate is engraved with the name ‘Fraichet à Lyon’. Total height: 127 cm, Width: 47 cm, Depth: 23 cm Condition report on the case: The assembly consists mainly of components dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. Cracks, heavily oxidised varnish on the paintwork, old retouching, complete re-gilding of the bronze parts, added elements including the figure of Renown, minor losses of bronze on the cartouche and the lamp base.
