Description
Henryk II KOSSOWSKI (1855–1921) Faun Bronze with a brown patina. Signed on the base. A scratch on one shoulder. Height: 46.5 cm, Width: 31 cm, Depth: 23 cm A sculptor of Polish origin active in France in the late 19th century, Henryk II Kossowski was part of the great academic tradition drawing on classical and mythological references. His work, characterised by a rigorous mastery of form and a keen attention to anatomy, reflects the influence of Neoclassical sculpture whilst embracing a freer expressiveness characteristic of his era. This Faun perfectly illustrates this dual approach. The figure, inspired by Greco-Roman mythology, combines physical power with a mischievous vitality. The treatment of the torso and limbs reveals precise modelling, in which the musculature is rendered with suppleness and naturalness. The deep, warm brown patina accentuates the interplay of light and shadow, lending the sculpture a vibrant presence.
