Ciborium-shaped vase, circa 1830–1840. Made of opal crystal in a hydrangea pink colour. It is supported by a stem around which a white snake is coiled, with scales painted in gold. This shade of pink is known as ‘pigeon’s throat’ or ‘hydrangea’; the colour is achieved by adding gold salt. Height: 20 cm.
