JAPAN, 20th century. Complete samurai armour. Shibashi kabuto with twenty riveted iron plates. Neck guard, shikoro, with four tiers, made of lacquered iron and navy blue silk. Iron mempo with a very pronounced nose and chin. The nose is removable; the moustache is made of hair; the nostrils are pierced and the teeth are visible. Two sweat spikes beneath the chin. The throat guard, yodare-kake, has three tiers and is made of lacquered metal. Wide shoulder guards, sode, in lacquered metal, leather and midnight blue silk, with eight tiers. A lacquered metal breastplate adorned with a mon. Arm guards, kote, made of chainmail and gilded iron plates. Skirt, kusazuri, and leg guards, haidate, in black lacquered metal and blue silk.
