Description
Charles HARLEUX (19th century), Master silversmith, hallmarked in 1891.
A substantial silver centrepiece or goblet stand (hallmark: head of Mercury) featuring a banded shaft surmounted by three female busts supported by a broad scalloped base with finely chiselled decoration of foliage, gadroons and palmettes.
The four legs, in the form of stylised acanthus leaves, are centred with blank medallions.
Height: 40 cm
Diameter: 23 cm
Gross weight: 1595 g (excluding hallmark, including threaded stem).
Bibliography:
Charles Harleux, a Parisian silversmith, was active from 1891 onwards. Based on Rue Pastourelle, he produced silver tableware, notably in the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles.
