Description
Antoine-Nicolas DUCHEMIN, active until 1761, admitted as a Master in Paris in 1741, and Timothée DE LORME, born in 1663 in Rouen and died in 1751, admitted as a Master in Paris in 1717. A substantial cartel clock with a violin-shaped console in so-called ‘Boulle’ marquetry of brass, featuring acanthus leaves, volutes and floral friezes, surmounted by the warrior goddess Athena. The multi-lobed dial, in gilded and chiselled bronze, features twenty-six enamelled pieces marking the hours and minutes in Roman and Arabic numerals; it is signed and inscribed ‘DUCHEMIN’ in ‘Paris’. Chiselled and gilded bronze ornamentation beneath the dial, featuring a woman with cherubs, facing volutes, shells and cherub heads. Movement signed “DE LORME”, in Paris. Louis XV period.
