A young woman, perhaps Urania, draped in the Antique manner, seated on a stool, is shown writing and gazing at an astrological globe; the rectangular base with canted corners is decorated with Masonic trophies and raised on small feet (lacking the rear bezel, minor wear, small losses to the torchère), 25cm wide, 9.5cm deep, 28cm high (9 1/2in wide, 3 1/2in deep, 11in high). Muse of astronomy, geometry and geography, Urania guides the observation of the heavens and the understanding of the universe. Her traditional attributes include the celestial globe, compasses and a telescope.
