113. A mantel clock in sea-green marble and gilt-bronze depicting Abundance, first half of the 19th century
The white enamelled dial is signed 'Choiselat-Gallien Fab de bronzes de M. Frère du Roi Paris' and is set within a frieze of water leaves. A large male figure clad in drapery holds a cornucopia in his hand. Rectangular base with palmette motifs. (damage to the dial, oxidised hands, no key, no balance wheel, movement requires servicing), 28cm wide, 14cm deep, 44cm high (11in wide, 5 1/2in deep, 17in high).
An allegorical figure of prosperity and wealth, Abundance is generally represented holding a cornucopia overflowing with fruit and flowers. She evokes the blessings of peace and fertility.
