119. A pair of four-light candelabra depicting a winged Victory supporting a vase, first half of the 19th century The winged Victory figure holds a bouquet of four lights, on a rectangular base. (Slightly warped, with wear to the gilding), 17.5cm wide, 22cm deep, 63cm high (6 1/2in wide, 8 1/2in deep, 24 1/2in high). The personification of military or moral victory, and a highly popular decorative motif, Victory corresponds to the Greek goddess Nike. Depicted with wings, she bestows crowns and palms upon triumphant heroes.
