Description
BAYLE Luc-Marie (1914–2000) for TAI Transports aériens intercontinentaux. Circa 1954. Printed by Baille, Paris. This planisphere map, illustrated in an amusing style, highlights various milestones in the history of transport. From Christopher Columbus on his ship, to the hot-air balloon, via biplanes and airships. A humorous note in the bottom right-hand corner advises ‘Gentlemen Aeronauts not to use this map for navigation’. Luc-Marie Bayle was a naval officer and painter. Among other works, he decorated the Grand Planisphere of the Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes, as well as several ships, including Le France and the aircraft carriers Clemenceau and Foch. 58 x 79 cm. (minor creases and tears).
