Description
A clock in Sienese marble and black-patinated bronze depicting Venus crouching on a tortoise, by Antoine Coysevox (1640–1720). The dial displays the hours in Roman numerals, with the bezel shaped to resemble a snake. The quadrangular base rests on stylised shell-shaped feet (with chips and missing sections).
First half of the 19th century.
Height: 67 cm – Width: cm – Depth: 22 cm

Originally created for the North Parterre at Versailles and now housed in the Louvre, Coysevox’s Crouching Venus is inspired by the Venus of Lely held at the British Museum.
