Émile LITTRE (1801–1881), French writer, lexicographer and politician. Autograph letter signed ‘E. Littré’, dated 18 July 1873 in Mesnil; addressee unknown. 1p; fine copy. ‘My health is hardly improving; if I am unable to go to Versailles next Monday, I would ask you, in the motion tabled by Mr Jules Favre, to vote for me as the Left, to which I belong, will do. Moreover, I do not think there will be any divisions amongst the various factions of the Left on this matter. I shake your hand. E. Littré”. Enclosed are two signed letters by LAMARTINE (the handwriting is difficult to decipher, one of which is in fair condition). Lot from a voluntary sale.
