Description
Louis ROGER (1874–1953). The Annunciation. Oil on canvas, signed lower left (repainted). Height: 27 cm – Width: 35 cm Before winning the Prix de Rome in 1899 for ‘Hercules between Vice and Virtue’, this student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Rennes also studied at Jean-Paul Laurens’s Académie Julian. A prize-winner at the 1900 World’s Fair and winner of the Rosa Bonheur Prize in 1907, he contributed to the decoration of the grand state staircase at Rennes Town Hall on the eve of the First World War. In 1923, he created “Family, Betrothal, Fatherland” for the wedding hall. Lot from a voluntary sale.
