Portrait said to be of Prudent Bruley (1686–1761).
Original canvas and stretcher.
Height: 92 cm – Width: 74 cm
18th-century gilded carved wooden frame.
Dated on a page of the book “59 R./FFiel 85 / June 1742”; the sitter’s name is inscribed on a label on the reverse of the stretcher: “Bruley (Prudent), born in Saint Maurice-aux-Riches-Hommes on 17 June 1686, husband of Jeanne-Etiennette Poinsignon, father of Bernard-Prudent, Jean-Germain, Jacques-Prudent and Marie (Mrs Patas) – died in Paris on 15 August 1761, former musketeer, prosecutor at the Châtelet, commissioner for the poor and churchwarden of the parish of Saint Paul in Paris”.
