Henry SIMON (1910–1987). Sheep Market. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Height: 81 cm - Width: 100 cm Born in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, Henry Simon trained at the Écoles des Beaux-Arts in Nantes and Paris, where he studied under Émile and Lucien SIMON. Associated with the Saint-Jean-de-Monts group alongside Jean Launois, he is regarded as one of the first modern painters of the Vendée, alongside Charles Milcendeau. His work depicts everyday life through a regionalist lens with an almost ethnographic focus. His paintings document the customs and traditions of market gardeners before they disappeared. Lot from a voluntary sale.
