Description
Marie Amélie d’Orléans, Princess of France and Queen of Portugal (1865–1951) 12 letters and postcards, 1930–1948, from Amélie, Queen of Portugal, addressed to René Benjamin, written from the Château de Bellevue (Le Chesnay-Versailles) and Naples Personal letters sent in gratitude for the various books presented by René Benjamin 16 April 1931 My dear Mr Benjamin, I am very touched by your kind thought in sending me your book *Barrès-Joffre* and I thank you most sincerely for it. I shall find it in a few weeks’ time upon my return to Versailles, where it awaits me. I have no doubt that I shall take as great an interest in reading it as I have always taken in your previous works, but I did not wish to wait until then to thank you and to express the deep esteem in which I hold you and your works, in which you so skilfully, with a touch as sure as it is witty and lively, highlight the greatness and the pettiness, the virtues and the failings of our age. Whilst institutions and politicians may fear your criticism and your wit, the good people of France find you very much in tune with their views; they applaud you and love you... + 2 invitations to lunch and tea at the Château de Bellevue
