HUSSAR OFFICER’S SABRE QUIVER
BELONGING TO ERNEST MAXIMILIEN ZORN OF
BULACH (1786–1868).
Large patch edged with a wide gold-coloured braided trim
, with a serrated edge and folded back on itself at the four corners. The
centre covered in green cloth richly embroidered with gilded silver thread
featuring the stylised ‘CF’ monogram of Charles-Frederick of Baden
, beneath a crown. Edging and interior in red leather. Internal pocket
without a flap, lined on the back with brown leather. Suspended
by two brass rings; the central ring is missing. With
an identification card in the pocket. The fabric of the
patch is in poor condition (moth holes)

Biography: Ernest Maximilian Zorn von Bulach (1786–1868). Son of Antoine
Joseph, he was a second lieutenant in Prince Louis’s 2nd Baden Hussar Regiment in
1804, then a lieutenant in 1809. Taken prisoner in Austria, he entered French service
as a captain in the 8th Lancers Regiment in June 1812, fighting at Smolensk and
the Moskova. As aide-de-camp to General Lhéritier, he distinguished himself in Saxony (1813) and
during the French Campaign.
