LARGE DOCUMENT CASE THAT
BELONGED TO FRANÇOIS D’ARISTAY DE
CHATEAUFORT (1704–1765).
Counsellor at the Court of Lorraine.
In black morocco leather, rectangular in shape, with a stamped decoration of
a fleur-de-lis on each corner. Brass clasp and fastening,
engraved on the upper part with a coat of arms beneath a knight’s helmet,
lambrequins and crest (a rampant lion) bearing the arms of
its owner, and on the lower part with the towers of a
fortified castle. Gusseted interior with compartments, in red morocco leather;
the flap is decorated with a scattering of small flowers,
shells and scrolls gilded with fine metalwork. Preserved with
its original key. Signs of age, minor damage.
