MAJOR GENERAL’S UNIFORM
‘TENENTE GÉNÉRAL’, HAVING BELONGED TO
PRINCE ALFONSO DE BRAGANCE, DUKE OF PORTO.
Comprising: a large major general’s coat, in
blue cloth, with a scarlet collar and piping, fastening with a double
row of five buttons bearing the Portuguese coat of arms, gilded, by
the Séqueira firm in Lisbon. Cuffs with pointed ends decorated
with three silver stars of a Major General. Martingale
with piping. Lining in black cloth. A cape in blue cloth,
piped in scarlet. Lining in black cloth. Label from the
tailor Antonio Vaz Abrantes in Lisbon. A
dress tunic of a Major General. In black cloth, with five
flat buttons covered in black cloth. Lapels adorned with
three silver stars of a Major General. Shoulder tabs
in gold braid fastening with a gold button bearing the
Portuguese coat of arms. Collar decorated on each side with the
three stars of a Major General and a star bearing the
gold cipher of King Manuel II beneath a crown, in silver. Lining
in black satin with the tailor’s mark of Antonia Vaz
Abrantes, with a white collar marked in ink ‘D. ALFONSO
DE BRAGANCA’. A pair of trousers in bluish iron-grey cloth
with double scarlet stripes. Internal pockets in chamois leather.
Brown leather drawstring. Good condition.
