Description
DIGNITARY’S SWORD.
Mother-of-pearl hilt; the chiselled and gilded bronze pommel
depicts a royal crown; the guard is adorned with
cornucopias and engraved with a serpent and a mirror,
symbols of prudence and clear-sightedness; steel blade
stamped F BD (Backès and Delacour), brown leather scabbard
with two gilt brass fittings. Preserved in its
original shaped case, with a second white leather scabbard.
Signs of age, damage and missing parts on the second scabbard.
French work from the late 19th to early 20th century.
