NEVADA, Duchess of Braganza,
née Stoody Hayes (1885–1941).
A significant collection of around 40 telegrams and letters
of condolence addressed to the Duchess on the occasion of the
death of her husband, the Duke of Porto, on 21 February
1920, signed by the Marquis of Alcedo, Giuseppe Compagna,
Princess Paola of Ostheim, the Princess of Saxe-Weimar,
Count Louis Primoli, José Valley de Cardiga, Mrs Walter
Tibbith, Diogo Vergolino de Brito, Mary C. Calvi, etc. Including
a handwritten letter from the Master of Ceremonies of the Court of Italy announcing
the period of mourning following the Duke’s death, dated 22 February
1920, etc. Also included are two photographs showing the
coffin of Prince Alfonso of Braganza and a set of 5 autograph letters
signed ‘Jack’ dated 1924, addressed to the
Duchess, who was then living in Monte Carlo.
