Description
18TH-CENTURY ITALIAN SCHOOL.
Commemorative piece bearing the arms of King Charles Emmanuel IV of Savoy
(1751–1819) and his wife, Princess Marie-Clotilde of
France (1759–1802).
Large oval medallion, decorated with an altar adorned
with fine repoussé polychrome metal leaves revealing
in the centre the intertwined double monogram of
Charles Emmanuel (CE) and Marie-Clotilde (MC) within
a setting richly decorated with garlands of flowers,
arabesques and doves, surmounted by a pediment bearing the
alliance arms of the Houses of Savoy and France beneath
a royal crown, signed and dated at the bottom centre ‘Giovanni
Giovine 1786’, preserved under glass in its
original carved and gilded wooden frame decorated with a frieze of small
pearls and stylised foliage. Signs of age to the gilding,
minor losses, but in good original condition.
