Description
SAINT ELIZABETH AND SAINT SERGIUS.
By the Batukhin workshop, Saint Petersburg, second half of the
19th century. A set of two beautiful icons, tempera on wood,
preserved in their original kiot. Bears on the reverse the stamp
of the workshop of I. (Ivan) F. (Fedorovich) Batukhin in Saint
Petersburg (Sadovaya Street, No. 44). Signs of age, but in good
overall condition.

Kiot: H.: 29.5 cm - W.: 24.5 cm.
Provenance: given their quality and subject matter, this pair of icons was most
likely commissioned as a gift to mark the marriage of Grand Duke
Sergei Alexandrovich to Princess Elisabeth of Hesse-Darmstadt, celebrated on 3
June 1884.
