Description
Jacques Hilpert (1881–1952): Lieutenant Lebas, in the uniform of the 47th Infantry Regiment. A pair of watercolours with gouache, signed in the bottom right-hand corner. (Dimensions (visible area): 23 x 14.5 cm) In pitchpine frames. The 47th Infantry Regiment fought in 1914: at Charleroi, then Guise, and took part in the Battle of the Marne, followed by the Race to the Sea and the Artois. In 1915, they were in Artois and Champagne; in 1916, in the Argonne and on the Somme; in 1917, on the Somme, Mont Cornillet, then the Meuse; and in 1918, they were in Verdun, on the Marne and in the Vosges, ending the war on 22 November in Strasbourg.
