19th-century French school. “Portrait of a brigadier-general of the Second Empire, wearing the insignia of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, Commander of the Order of St Gregory the Great, the Military Medal, and the plaque of the Order of Medjidié (Turkey).” Miniature. Circular watercolour drawing in a square, blackened wooden frame. Engraved on the back of the frame: ‘M. Hemard’ or ‘Henuard’ (Diameter: 8 cm) (crack in the frame) NB: The epaulettes appear to bear marshal’s batons as well as a significant number of stars.
