Description
Officer’s sword. Shank covered in stingray skin with a silver filigree design. Gilded brass mountings, single-bar guard, pommel featuring a cockerel within a wreath of oak leaves surmounted by a bundle of six flags. Engraved pommel (showing wear) reading ‘St Cyr 1832 – the Fifth Company to its Sergeant Major A. Bondurand’. Blade with a central ridge. Iron sheet scabbard with two bands (probably added later). Length: 94 cm. ABE (signs of wear). Date from the July Monarchy period. History: A graduate of the 13th intake of the Special Military School, ‘du Firmament’ (1830–1832), Alexis Adolphe Bligny-Bondurand (1811–1863) pursued a career in the quartermaster’s department, notably in Algeria.
