Non-commissioned officer’s kepi from the 32nd Châtellerault Infantry Regiment, black woollen band, woollen cap and turban in madder red, black piping, the number 32 embroidered in scarlet cotton thread, a black patent-leather peak topped by a gold-coloured faux chinstrap fastened by two buttons bearing the infantry’s insignia. Black sheepskin lining and yellow satin lining. Manufactured by Pangaud in Tours. Initials ‘EP’. Good condition. Kepi attributed to Louis Édouard Pilon, sergeant in the 232nd Infantry Regiment, who died for France as a result of his wounds in March 1915 following the fighting between Nomeny and Pont-à-Mousson.
