Description
An Antique high altar with tabernacle and throne, sculptured and patinated wood, Baroque Revival, late 19th century. Sculptured and polychrome patinated wood. High altar with a tabernacle and throne. Richly decorated with volutes, grapevines, braziers, and pendant ornaments. The base (antipendum) features a central decoration of the IHS Christogram and a sunburst. The upper section, with the tabernacle and throne, is decorated with a sculptured angel 'Ecce Panis Angelorum'. The tabernacle door is decorated with a carved bas-relief depicting the Holy Grail, a crucifix, and an anchor, the interior is lined with silk. The thronus (or exposition throne) features an interior decorated with carved Gothic Revival angels (in bas-relief), silk, and gold brocade, with an appliqué of the Sacred Heart of Christ. Baroque Revival, Northern France, late 19th century. (292 x 368 x 91 cm)
