An Antique Russian four-panel 'Feasts and Mother of God' travel icon, bronze, 19th century. Bronze. A four-panel icon or tetraptych, depicting the 12 major feasts and the veneration of the icons of the Mother of God. On three panels, in rectangular sections, the following feast days are depicted: the Annunciation, the Nativity of Christ, the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Entry of the Virgin Mary into the Church (Presentation of Mary), the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, Epiphany, the Transfiguration of Christ, the Entry of Christ into Jerusalem, the Resurrection of Christ, the Ascension of Christ, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. On the fourth panel: - The veneration of the icon of the Mother of God of Tikhvin with the standing Saint Alexander of Svir and Saint Kiril of Beluzersk in the top row. - The icon of Vladimir with the standing Saint Maximus of Moscow and Blessed Basil on the top row, the Moscow Saints Alexy, Peter, Jonah, and Philip on the bottom row. - The icon of Smolensk with the standing Saint Anthony of the Caves and Saint Theodosius on the top row. - The icon of the Sign with the standing Anthony the Roman and Saint Leonty of Rostov on the top row. The crowning elements with the following scenes: the Crucifixion of Christ, the Trinity of the New Testament, the Exaltation of the Cross, and the Hymn to the Mother of God. The back is finished with a finely chased image of Golgotha, with the inscription 'We bow down before your cross and glorify your holy resurrection.' Russia, first half of the 19th century.
