Description
A chalice with silver-plated plaques. Silver Cuppa, Gilt brass. Gothic Revival, France. 19th/20th century. Standing on a six-lobed base, finished withsilver-plated relief images of Jesus Christ, Saint Joseph, and the Virgin Mary. The cup with an inscription: 'Hic est enim Calix Sanguinis mei - 'This is the calice of my blood'. Cuppa made of vermeil (gilt silver) and mounted with three silver-plated relief images of Archangels. Further marked with a French export mark, 1st-grade silver. Gilt. The paten is marked with a French Export mark, 2nd grade silver. Gilt. Including the original shrine. Dimensions of the shrine: 18 x 28 x 17 cm. Maker's mark VF in a diamond. France, late 19th or early 20th century. (16 x 25.5 x 0 cm)
