Description
Original double barrelled table top percussion shotgun. Exceptional luxury finish, decorated on top in cursive gold lettering P AUGUSTE BIZALION et CESSIER, Arquebusier à ST Etienne. (Cessier is known for the invention of a boot pistol with a percussion system from below around 1840). High-quality burr walnut short-barrelled frame, engraved with wickerwork motifs and a splendid, particularly expressive Faun head; no dents or missing parts. All fittings in silver-plated metal, finely inlaid. The trigger guard has a scrolled finger rest. The buttplate is fitted with a slide which closes by means of a door fitted perfectly into the concave shoulder. The door is opened by pressing a button concealed on the back of the stock. Each lock decorated with a gold medallion engraved in cursive letters on one side: AUG BIZALION and CESSIER and on the other side ST ETIENNE. Gold thumb piece engraved with the owner's monogram in cursive letters: ELB. Total length 1.29 m for 85 cm tubes. The barrels are finished in their original case-hardened finish. Smooth bore, 16 mm inside diameter at muzzle. Original wooden ramrod and brass tip, with double helix wadding puller, aimed backwards on the distal end. Rare bayonet lug on the right flank 4 cm from the muzzle for "serving" big game. Both sling flaps are present. Perfect dogs, operating in cocked and half-cocked action, with smooth, straightforward springs. Precise, play-free trigger action. Perfect chimneys, suggesting that it has fired very little since it was made in the 19th century. Exceptional for its freshness of preservation and the luxurious finish.
