Description
Regulation cowhair rucksack for the dismounted gendarmerie.
Made circa 1871/1872. With its original wooden frame, it has a side access for the cartridge box (missing).
Complete with yellow dyed buffalo shoulder straps, side straps and all straps.
Some weakened seams need to be reinforced (just a few stitches) and the lower part of the large strap needs to be reattached.
The period skin is missing a few places. In used condition.
