Description
Beautiful set of French general officer bridles from the Second Empire period. Comprising an 1853 bridle bit, a breastplate with Gorgon motif, reins, a pair of spurs and a sabre strap. The lacquered black leather headpiece is decorated with a browband with wide gold braid and a gilt brass chain bracelet. Complete with throat piece. The bits are complete with their buckles. Ornaments in gilt brass bells. 1853 bit with Gorgon bosses, copper-plated steel with wear from use in the mouth and a trace of oxidation on the back of one limb. Chest girth with heart decorated with a large Gorgon motif in gilt brass (this girth is complete with its 3 leathers for lateral fixing to the saddle and central fixing to the girth under the saddle). A bridle rein is present along its length, in two parts with assembly on a central buckle with barb. A pair of brass spurs without their leathers. A sabre hoop with a steel spring hook on a wide black rubber lacquered leather. Good overall homogeneity and patina for this rare set.
