Description
Rare French Marine Model 1878 Kropatschek repeating rifle, calibre 11 mm "Gras". Breechcase with faint markings including maker's name "Manufacture de Mr de WERNDL - Steyr-Autriche", and model "Mle 1878 MARINE". Total length of the weapon 123 cm. The stock has been broken in two. The whole of the wood is present in its length with misses, splinters and the stigmata of time and bad weather. The French Navy's first automatic weapon with manual repetition (a tubular magazine holds 7 projectiles under the barrel). Exposed to salt spray, it shows signs of oxidation. Perfectly functioning mechanically (breech, trough, lift, etc.), it constitutes a good basis for restoring a rare weapon and provides a homogeneous set of fittings. Category D, collection.
