Description
[CHINA] CH'I P'AI-SHIH or QI BAISHI (Pinyin transcription). Beijing, 1955, Rong Bai Zhai. Beautiful work published to mark the artist's 91st birthday. This magnificent boxed set includes two important collections of large-format prints by Chinese painter Qi Baishi, originally from Hunan and considered to be one of the last great exponents of traditional Chinese painting. This collection comprises 80 colour plates, separated into two paperback volumes with decorated blue covers, in a superb state of freshness (rare foxing to a few plates), housed in a lace-up slipcase decorated with full brocaded silk with floral motifs. A MAGNIFICENT EXEMPLAIRE, whose subjects include birds, insects such as beetles, butterflies and praying mantises, fruit, vegetables, animated scenes with figures, landscapes and various views, sometimes accompanied by poems or seals. The artist excelled in evoking the rustic world of the Chinese countryside. There are also prints by other Chinese artists including: Daiqiu WU, Mengbai WANG, Jin MA, Bolong YAN, Dingzhi TANG, Shizi WANG, Hechou LI, Guangyu WU, Yansun XU, Jichuan YANG, Banding CHEN, Bolong YAN, Shizeng CHEN, Xuetao WANG...
