SLAVERY. SARTINE, Gabriel de (1729-1801) police lieutenant, minister of the Navy. Signed letter addressed to the count of NOLIVOS. Paris, 26 May 1777. 1 p. in-4. Sartine has received "the two draft declarations concerning the negroes of the Colonies and the attached observations. Please accept my thanks and send them on my behalf to MM de La Ferronnays and de Bongars. I will examine everything carefully and we will discuss it [...]". Pierre Gédéon de Nolivos (1714-1794), a slave-owning planter, was governor of Guadeloupe (from 1765 to 1768), then of Saint-Domingue (from 1769 to 1772).
