Presented in plaster at the 1889 Salon, Felix Charpentier won first prize at the Salon in 1890 for the marble entitled La Chanson. A student of Jules Cavelier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Charpentier exhibited regularly at the Salon and took on major public commissions. We owe him the beautiful group L'Art contemporain on the façade of the Grand Palais, and the Orsay, Luxembourg and Avignon museums hold some of his works.
