A student of Paul Landowski at the Académie Julian, Simone Boutarel exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon des Artistes français from 1925. The bronze edition of this model was produced by the Fonderie Coopérative des artistes. The aim of this foundry, which operated between 1920 and 1946, was to serve artists in their best interests by getting sculptors and art workers to work together in a spirit of solidarity, without making a profit.
