Description
The Self Worker" Binocular Camera A. and J. Pipon Paris, n°1623, 6.5 x 9, with Zeiss-Krauss 8/100 mm lens, circa 1898. As is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES : (...) Exists in other formats : 8 x 9 cm, 9 x 12 cm, stereo 6 x 13 cm and 8 x 16 cm. In 1894, two brothers, Alexandre and Jules Pipon, set up business at 5 rue Castex in Paris, manufacturing cameras. The brothers were not opticians, but had trained as mechanics. In 1905, the company moved to 10 rue de la rue Thorigny under the name 'A. et J. Pipon'. The two brothers took an interest in the budding world of cinema and patented a device called the Cinographoscope (...).
