Description
Offenstadt Paris "Photo-Quint" spy camera, with meniscus lens and gravity shutter, negative format 4 x 5 cm, with boxes of "Le Photo-Quint" 4 x 5 plates, circa 1900. Worn, as is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: The Photo-Quint and Phototake are two cameras classed as 'spies', more akin to toys than to the kit of a member of the CIA or KGB. Their design and shape are very similar. They are equipped with five plates arranged in a pentagon in a round darkroom about 95 mm in diameter. In both cases, the cover supporting the lens is rotated to bring it in front of each sensitive plate. The Photo-Quint is generally made of cardboard in different colours, and the shutter is attached to the cap. (...) The Phototake is also made of sheet metal and has a shutter (one speed and exposure), as well as a reflex viewfinder. Visuals and text " Autour d'une collection 2 " Collection JMP Club Niépce Lumière, p. 161. Expert Isabelle Cazeils. Provenance: Jean-Marie PRADES Collection. Spy camera.
