Description
The Kinora, manufactured by Léon Gaumont under licence from the Compagnie Française du Mutoscope et du Biographe, no. 291, circa 1896. Additional views are included. As is. N.B. Jean-Marie PRADES: In 1896, one year after the beginnings of cinema, Louis Lumière created the Kinora, an application of the Mutoscope to cinema. This device gave people who did not want to film, or who had modest means, access to the cinema. The Mutoscope was patented in the United States on 21 November 1894. It was the invention of Herman Casler, who designed the device based on the principle of a leaflet, also known as a Folioscope (...) The Kinora, which is used by families, uses cinema film that is cut out view by view. Each frame is then glued onto cardboard supports that are linked together. A simple model operated by a crank was cheap. The one shown here has a clockwork movement (...). Visuals and texts " Autour d'une collection 2 " Collection JMP Club Niépce Lumière, p. 256.
